There are a couple of great ways to permanently fix a leaking pipe in your home. It can be difficult if you’ve never done it before but don’t worry; you’ll feel proud of the work you’ve done.
One way to fix your leaking pipe is to install a pipe clamp that’s designed to fix a leaking pipe. This is an easy method and the simplest of all. The clamps of the device will have rubber gaskets that are located on the inside of the clamp. This gasket is made to fit securely around the leaky pipe. All you need to do is set the clamp over the leak in your pipe and tighten the necessary screws, holding the clamp in place and creating a permanent seal on the pipe. These pipe clamps are available at all home improvement and department stores.
Another way to fix a leaking pipe is to use a braided or metal device with compression couples on both sides. The best thing about this method is it allows you to fix larger leaks or a split in the pipe. These braided metal tubes even let you repair a leak in the elbow of a pipe because they’re very flexible. You can also buy the tubes in a variety of lengths to fix a pipe of any length. Installing the braided metal tube can be difficult if you’ve never done it before.
You’ll need to cut out the damaged area of the pipe, making sure to drain out all the water. Simply center the repair section against the damaged area to be removed, marking the pipe one inch from each end of the coupling. Cut out the damaged segment along the marks you made and slide the new compression couplings on to each end, attaching the repair coupling. The you just need to tighten the fittings and turn your water back on to have a new pipe, completely leak-free.
