Have a small kitchen and don’t know what to do with it? Don’t like its small shape and a tiny look? There are some simple tricks that might help you make it look bigger and more functional.

Lighten up – Use color to reflect light and make even the smallest kitchen seem larger. Paint the ceiling white and the walls in a light color. To add interest, paint cabinet doors a contrasting shade.

Let the sunshine in – Increasing the amount of natural light in a small kitchen will instantly make it appear bigger. Completely remove curtains and blinds or opt for just a valance. If privacy is an issue, opt for a half curtain in a fabric that is light and airy. Keep the window clean and clutter-free.

Mirror image – Mirrors make any room appear larger. If there is no window above the sink, fill that space with a single mirror or self-stick mirror tiles. Find another area where a mirror can be hung. The larger the better!

Clear the clutter – Free up as much counter space as possible. Do not use counters to store items that can be put in cabinets or drawers. Remove all small appliances that are not used every day. Place those that must stay on the countertop as much out of the way as possible. Rinse dirty dishes and place immediately in the dishwasher or a dishpan kept under the sink, out of sight. Keep the refrigerator free of magnets, notes and pictures.

Maximize storage – Hang spice racks on the inside of cabinet doors to store a variety of small food items. Make more efficient use of cupboard and pantry space with inexpensive organizers and other storage solutions available at any hardware store.

To lighten the flooring you can use a light marble. In a small kitchen it will cost little, will lighten the room and add style into the bargain. Also, use light-colour ceramic tiles for splashbacks around the sink.

Handy tips here - nice post.

Great piece of writing which I found really interesting. In my view however and unfortunatley so, the best method to clean window blinds is to take them down and give them a sponge bath in the shower by means of pinesol or lysol or something along those lines. any sort of cleaner will be okay.
