Most of us probably is not aware of connections between our daily choices in example in menu and world’s water use. But connections are really strong!

A good example of this is eating a beef meat – admittedly in preparation of a steak directly we use a small amount of water (cooking and drinking use just about 1 gallon per capita per day), but production of every pound of this meat needs no less than 1 500 gallons of water in production process. It’s more than home use of water per one person a month. So it’s very important to try eat poultry more often, that needs only about 300 gallons per pound of meat, or even more water-friendly vegetables (water use – about 30 gallons per pound).
Equally extensive problem may be caused by a source of electricity in home – cheap nuclear energy needs 250 gallons water to operate in one household per day and solars need only a 1/10 of this.
Every man should also think about material that is in use and its eco-friendly (or non eco-friendly) aspect – a ton of aluminium needs in production process about 500 000 gallons of water, paper – about 5 000 gallons per ton and plastic about 3 000 – 4 000 per ton
Of course saving water in house is important, but we must remember about water in industry and agriculture all the time, because in Great Britain it takes 78% of all water use. In house in one day a single person can save in extreme case (from absolutely waste to plum economy) no more than 100 gallons. But through a good, responsible and eco-aware decisions in day-to-day life man can save everyday thousand gallons of clean water. It is worh to remember about.
