Decorating for the holidays is fun! Whether you prefer traditional or contemporary décor, choose to decorate the entire house or just certain areas, confine your decorating to just the inside of your home or expand out into the yard, start decorating for the holidays today.
Simplify
Decide how much decorating you’d like to do this year. To keep things simple, choose to decorate only certain areas. Select the size and type of tree that fits your space and lifestyle. For a festive look from the street without the bother of outdoor lighting, place lights inside of windows.
Pick a Theme
To make holiday decorating easy, choose a theme. Consider the Nativity, snowflakes and snowmen, holly and bows, or Santa and his reindeer. Select items to complement the theme and place them throughout the house. Remember to decorate the front door to announce the theme to visitors as they arrive. As an alternative, choose a different theme for each room.
Be Creative
Opt to decorate in non-traditional colours. Imagine blue and gold rather than the usual red and green. Consider to monotone colour scheme. Decorations in gold alone lend elegance to the home while various shades of red add a festive air. Create handmade decorations for an old fashioned look.
A Family Affair
Let the entire family in on the fun. Give each family member decorating responsibility for a specific area or room. Have the kids decorate the lower half of the tree and then let them move the ornaments around every day, if they like. Just have fun as a family!
