Your Christmas Tree

Decorating a Christmas tree is an annual tradition in many homes. While some families may go out to the tree farm and cut their own, others purchase a tree at a tree lot. Live trees or artificial trees are also options. The type and size of tree you choose depends on a variety of factors.

Live Trees

There are unique advantages to choosing a pot grown Christmas tree. The tree stays fresh through the holidays. Once Christmas is over, you have a beautiful tree to add to the garden. If the tree is small enough, it can be re-potted in a larger container and kept outside the rest of the year to be brought indoors during a few more Christmases before being planted permanently in the garden.

Cut Trees

Choosing a pre-cut tree allows for a wider variety of sizes. For homes with high ceilings, a taller tree is often desired. If a cut tree is selected, be sure to have a plan for disposal. Once the holidays are over, cut trees are very dry and can be a fire hazard.

Artificial Trees

A wide variety of beautiful artificial trees are available. Small, medium or large, artificial trees can be purchased with a stand and lights already attached. Save the box and once the holidays are over, just fold up the branches and store until next season.

Correct Size

Choosing the right size of tree is important. Select the location and measure the height, width and depth of the area. Take this information along when choosing a tree to ensure that the tree selected will fit into place once it is home.
