You can purchase a tabletop fountain but may prefer to create your own. The process is not difficult but does require a few supplies. To make your own fountain, find or purchase the following items:

* Submersible aquarium pump, preferably with suction cups on the bottom to hold it in place.
* Plastic tubing that fits the pump.
* Waterproof container.
* Small stones of various sizes.
* Waterproof decorations, as desired.

Choose a waterproof container of the desired size. Make sure that there is enough depth for the pump to be submerged. If the preferred container is not waterproof, such as a basket or clay pot, put a waterproof container inside.

Add the pump, with tubing attached, and water to the container. Ensure that the pump is submerged and test before proceeding. Cover the pump with stones and position the tubing to direct the flow of the water. Secure the tubing in place as you add additional pebbles and other decorative items to the fountain. Use your imagination! Shells, marbles and small ceramic figurines all make nice additions to a tabletop fountain.

To maintain your fountain, add water as needed and clean thoroughly every three months. If algae is a problem, add a little bleach to the water. After each cleaning, rearrange the fountain, if desired.
