The desire for cheery brightness in the home often accompanies the coming of spring. Looking around outside, it is easy to see seasonal changes everywhere. Although the weather may still be unsettled, the promise of warm sunny days fills us with anticipation. Use the beauty of spring as inspiration to dispense with the dreariness of winter and change your home’s decor to match this glorious season!

Start in the bedroom. Strip the beds of heavy or dark coloured bedding and substitute bright or pastel colours in a floral print or geometric pattern. Replace heavy window treatments with an airier option, such as sheer panels or lace. For privacy, install roller blinds. To give the room a complete feeling of freshness, clear out all excess clutter that may have accumulated over the course of the winter.
Bring the beauty of spring inside. Stroll around the neighbourhood or visit a local nursery and gather a variety of branches for forcing. Crab apple, cherry, forsythia and birch are popular favourites. Simply cut the ends at a sharp angle and place in any type of large watertight container filled with tepid water. Place the branches in a sunny spot and add water, as needed. Fill several containers, if desired, and place throughout the home.

Spring is about fresh spaces. Assess the entire home for areas that feel gloomy or dull. Dispense with items that are no longer of use and put into storage those that will be needed next winter. Clear flat surfaces and place a bouquet of fresh cut flowers in every room.
