If you have a carpet that needs cleaning, there’s no reason to pay for an expensive service to come to your house. You can easily and effectively get the job done on your own.
One way to do this is by renting a shampooing machine. Avoid using shampoo, however, even if the instructions call for it. Shampoo often leaves a tacky residue that will actually attract dirt and grime. This can cause the carpet to get dirty again much faster. (more…)

As the fields of interior design and home improvement have become more popular in recent years, the formerly often neglected bathroom has been getting more attention than ever. Many people are turning their plain bathrooms into lush getaways or sophisticated spas. Small bathrooms, however, pose unique challenges when it comes to design.
While the lack of space may make it impossible to install a large garden tub or double sinks, there are still ways to give even small bathrooms a much needed facelift.
Often the biggest problem in small bathrooms is the lack of storage space. To create room for storage, it is necessary to get creative. Look for storage units that are wall mounted. A cabinet over the toilet or a shelf over a bathtub can add valuable space for storing bathroom essentials. Some storage solutions, such as a large basket for holding rolled up towels, can double as design elements. (more…)

Though there will still be times where you will need to call a professional plumber, some jobs are simple enough that you can do them yourself. However, in order to do simple plumbing repair on your own, you will need some essential tools.
• Sink Auger: A sink auger can be very valuable for unclogging drains on tubs or sinks. However, don’t use this on a toilet. There’s another tool made especially for that.
• Closet Auger (also called a toilet auger): The closet auger is specifically designed for unclogging toilets. Just as you shouldn’t use a sink auger on a toilet, don’t use a closet auger on a sink.
• Flange Plunger: The flange plunger is one designed to help clear clogs in toilets. Its specials shape makes it efficient for toilet bowls.

When the summer months roll around and the mercury rises, your home can get unbearably hot unless you are prepared. In some parts of the country, summer is the most pleasant time of the year—warm, breezy and inviting. In other parts, it can be the most miserable, with dangerously high temperatures and poor air quality. With a little bit of prep, however, anybody can make their homes comfortable and secure for the summer.
If you have air conditioning, stock up on air conditioning filters, and make sure you change them out at least every 30 days during the summer months—this will significantly improve your AC’s performance. You should also open the outside unit and clean any dust or debris out of the coils. If you don’t have AC, or you just want to save on electricity costs, get some electric fans to circulate air. A great tip is to get two or three very large fans and put them in your attic to run all during the summer. You will notice a drop in your home’s temperature almost immediately. And don’t forget window coverings—dark, heavy curtains and solid blinds can keep the sun’s harsh rays out of your home and keep things cooler. (more…)

Like any other room in the house, a kitchen needs furniture if it is to be used to its fullest potential. But to avoid clutter and unnecessary expense, several tips should be followed when going about the purchase of kitchen furniture.
• Gain an accurate assessment of the needs the kitchen can meet. When home improvement specialists are asked how to choose furniture, the first thing they recommend is knowing what the kitchen is used for. If used for regular dining, for example, the needs for furniture will be different than if no one ever eats there. Kitchen space-constraints will helpfully limit the owner’s list of furniture choices.
• Determine the budget for furniture. It is easy to go over budget when shopping for furniture, so there should be a firm limit to the amount of money that will be spent before anything is purchased. This budget should not be set until the kitchen owner has a rough idea of how much furniture actually costs, but once the budget has been established it should be followed exactly as it is written. Lime scale is an alkaline deposit that is caused by hard water. The deposit presents as a white chalky residue. It is often found in bathrooms and kitchens around faucets. The build up can eventually cause a restricted water flow, so it is very important to maintain your fixtures and appliances so they do not build up an excess of lime scale.
Lime scale can aslo be found on small appliances, such as coffeemakers and tea kettles. Basically, anywhere you use tap water, lime scale may develop. There is a way to clean the lime away without causing any damage to the fixtures and appliances. (more…)

Remodeling the bathroom can be especially difficult task, since most bathroom projects involve gutting the space and starting over. Homeowners who venture down this road are often faced with a tough choice: bath tub or shower? There are a few things to consider when making this choice.
At the top of the list is functionality. If the bathroom is the primary or only one in the house, consider whether anyone in the family prefers bathing over showering. Not having access to a bath tub may leave the family wanting in the future. Should you decide a bath tub is necessary, you can chose between a fiberglass unit that includes a shower head or a more elegant pedestal tub. Remember that a pedestal tub does not normally have a shower head. (more…)

In our everyday life we don’t usually think about how much water we actually waste when flushing toilet. It is such a common habit, we think there is not much we can do about it.
Now imagine, how surprised were we when we’ve found this extraordinary appliance. A slash toilet slash sink appliance!
How does it work?
The Australian Company Caroma has invented a unusual appliance which is called Profile Smart Dual Flush Toilet. This smart appliance is compilation of a toilet and a sink (assembled at the top of the toilet). While washing our hands the water from the sink flows to flush and is ready to be used (again).
This Caroma product was in 2008 recognised as the most inventive technological solution. As proven during tests, using this device can save up to70% of the water we normally use in our home! (more…)

Most of our appliances were invented to save us work and time, and have become very important to us. Some of the more major appliances we have in our homes are listed below.
A. The microwave—the microwave cooks or warms food in a shorter period of time than a stove or oven. It is not usually recommended to cook meats or bake cakes in the microwave. It is great for warming most foods. The microwave saves you time, and in some instances, a lesser amount of vitamins may be lost. (more…)
